Light. That’s what my eye is immediately drawn to with this painting. I love how the light is tied so beautifully to the rainbow and the hope it reminds us of after the storm. I really enjoyed reading The Wallace Collection’s description of this painting Ruben’s estate:
A sense of peacefulness and contentment pervades, and is heightened by the appearance of a double-arced rainbow that sweeps across the sky, unifying the composition. The difficulty of capturing this fleeting atmospheric phenomenon presented a great technical challenge to artists. Isn’t that description so fitting as we enter Holy Week? The beautiful hope of this week and the reconciliation that we celebrate next Sunday. As we inch closer each day to Easter, that hope builds.
